Possible antioxidant role*
There a quite a few clinical studies about cissus quadrangularis available for study. Read below some of the interpretations of the studies and their outcomes.
In regards to athletes:
Cissus has shown to be very effective in improving bone health by increasing the proliferation of Mesenchymal stem cells which are responsible for bone-forming osteablasts. These osteoblasts are specialized bone cells that regulate mineralization and osteogenesis (the formation of new bone) which starts with osteoblasts secreting collagen(1).As cissus is a plant and not an animal product, it is a great vegetarian alternative to most other bone recovery supplements which are often animal-derived.
Cissus has been shown to increase serotonin levels in the blood, as well as creatinine, suggesting that cissus may have an anabolic effect. (An increase in blood creatinine level suggests increased skeletal muscle mass(2). Studies of cissus's effect on bone growth also support the notion as an anabolic agent(3).
In regards to improved cholesterol and weigh management:
In recent studies, cissus showed an ability to improve cholesterol levels and triglycerides all while reducing weight and central obesity. These improvements in weight and other markers occurred in the group taking Cissus regardless of their diet(4).Another study concluded that cissus lowered body weight, waist size, total plasma cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and fasting blood glucose level(5).
The studied amount of cissus to use ranges from 600mg to 1+grams daily. Studies have shown that 600mg is effective for weight management and the cholesterol benefits of cissus. Many athletes such as marathon runners and swimmers report that 1+grams daily of cissus provides an effective means for faster recovery. This higher dosing would be appropriate for adding lean muscle mass as well.
Instructions for Use
